Performed by: Stefano
Services Performed: Stefano performed Post Purchase Inspection (PPI) on new to MME Van. Findings and services performed:
- Checked Engine Oil and Filter
- Motorcraft Oil Filter visible. Bit dirty externally with dust/dirt, not oil.
- Oil looks clean. Slightly overfilled.
- Instrument cluster says 69% life left.
- Checked Engine Air Filter
- Used for sure, but could see through it fine.
- Due to replace at the 30K service
- Checked Engine for leaks – All OK.
- Checked Serpentine Belts – All OK.
- Checked Washer Fluid – Added a few ounces of plain water
- Checked Coolant – All OK
- Checked Exterior and Interior Lighting – All OK.
- Checked Brakes
- Checked Brake Fluid
- Was a bit low. Didn’t look right. When I added an ounce, fluids swirled.
- Flushed brake system with new Prestone DOT4.
- Rotors
- Fronts 25.1mm (L) and 25.4mm (R)
- Rears 10.9mm (L) and 10.8mm (R)
- Rear rotor faces looked like a bit of surface oxidization from sitting
- Tons of meat left
- Pads
- Fronts 10.4mm (L) and 10.3mm (R)
- Rears 8.3mm (L) and 8.5mm (R)
- Tons of meat left, these seem like close to new
- Checked Brake Fluid
- Checked Tires
- Existing Tires are Continental ProContact 215/55R 16 97H M&S and all had date code 1219 (March 2019)
- Pressures
- Existing Front and Rear were about 35 PSI, spare was 29 PSI
- Set Front to 41 PSI, Rear to 42 PSI, Spare to 42 PSI
- Reset TPMS system by relearning all four sensors in their new positions using the key/on/off routine and my Autel TS501 to wake them up.
- Tread Depth
- Fronts were 6-6.5/32″
- Rears were 7-7.5/32″
- Outer tread groove was thinnest across the face on all four tires
- Rotated tires Front to Rear (same side) to put thickest tread on fronts
- Inspected tires and rims – All OK
- Added anti-seize compound to wheel studs
- Torqued wheel nuts to 150 ft-lbs
- Checked Suspension – All OK
- Noted some surface oxidization and rust on the front lower control arms and half shafts. Suspect this car lived in a salt state or near the ocean somewhere. Carfax says it was 1 owner car, originally sold in Modesto and serviced in Modesto. Not sure why the oxidization then.
- Checked Exhaust – All OK
- Checked Wiper Blades – Front and Rear Blades and sprayer aim All OK
- Checked Body
- Glass all OK
- Few small scuffs under the front end as usual ahead of the wheels
- License Plates
- Removed front Dealer license plate frame – they had hacked in threaded screws rather than using Ford proper bolts. Put temp plate inside car.
- Removed rear Dealer license plate frame and installed Stefano’s Garage plate frame. Still on the temp plates.
- Reset the Center Console software (APIM) with the onscreen display Master Reset Option to purge all previous owner settings, mobile devices, etc.
- Set the clock to correct time
- Linked the car’s APIM to the MME Guest WiFi Network (for updates)
- Linked my Smartphone to Bluetooth – All OK
- Updated the Ford Sync software from 3.3 (Build 18201) to 3.4 (Build 23188 latest version) by the USB method. Downloaded it based on VIN from Ford’s website.
- The over the air update didn’t seem to be working, or finding any new update. Wondering if MME’s firewall is GeoBlocking or something.
- Tried to add the vehicle to the Ford Connect app.
- Added the VIN, and when it was trying to connect to vehicle kept failing (multiple attempts)
- Checked the APIM menus, and it appears that the vehicles Ford Connect isn’t working. The EIN is blank, the Mobile Apps is a greyed out option, the Ford Connect options error out.
- Didn’t change with the APIM software update.
- No DTCs in the module relating to it
- I think the original owner didn’t have Ford Activate the Ford Connect option at the dealership when purchased, and it still needs to be done. Will need to be taken to dealership.
- The window sticker highlights its equipped with FordPass Connect 4G WiFi
- Checked for DTC’s
- Connected with laptop and Forscan software
- Four DTC’s present
- APIM U0151 – Lost Communication with Restraints Control Module
- ABS U3003 – Battery Voltage – Circuit Voltage Above Threshold – see other photos
- ABS U3003 – Battery Voltage – Circuit Voltage Below Threshold – see other photos
- TCU U0140 – Lost Communication with Body Control Module
- Reset DTC’s
- The APIM module DTC U0151 is continually present after reset still
Recommendations:
- Determine if there is a cabin filter, and if so inspect. Due to Replace.
- Order replacement front license plate bolts (2), or security bolts. Note these are machine threads, not self taping for plastic bumper.
- Ford Dealer will need to diagnose/activate the Ford Connect technology that seems to be deaf and dumb.
- Once activated – complete adding to MME’s Ford App
- Ford Deal should diagnose the DTC issue with APIM talking to Restraint Module
- Suggest adding Weathertech front floor mats
- Suggest adding 6″ USB Saver cables
- The Alloy wheels could use a proper cleaning – the brake dust between the spokes is caked on.
