I hate guessing at specs and torques. Video’s where someone just uses an impact driver to tighten up bolts drives me nuts. Most ANY bolt on a modern car has a specific Torque. Engine oil, brake fluid, coolant, all are specified by a manufacturer. Mixing in the wrong coolant type could be a disaster.
As I undertake a project I research this out carefully from all sources like the Interwebs, forums, and owners manuals. But I can’t remember it all, so I’ve taken to writing it all down in one place – here! Hopefully you can make use of it too.
This applies to the 1.8 and 2.0 liter TSI engines used in the North American Golf Mk 7 GTI and AllTrack from 2015 to 2017. Might be correct for other models, but verify on your own.
Engine
- Spark Plug Gap – 0.032″ (0.8mm)
- Spark plug torque 30 Nm
- Guessed 12 Nm on coil pack retaining bolt.
- Oil Fill Capacity
- 2.0T engine – 5.7 liters (6 quarts)
- 1.8T engine – 5.5 liters
- Engine Oil Grade – 5W-40 Full Synthetic meeting VW Spec 502 00
- Oil Drain Plug Torque – Hand tight – plastic don’t over tighten!
- Oil Filter Housing Torque – stenciled on housing (25 Nm)
- DSG filter cover 24 mm, torque 20 Nm.
- AllTrack Haldex clutch
- pump bolts 9.5 Nm
- drain plug 32 Nm
- fill plug 15 Nm
- Water Pump to Thermostat Housing Bolts
- 9 Nm
- Thermostat Housing to Engine Block

- Intake Manifold Bolts and Nuts to Cylinder Head

- 7 Nm (threading into plastic – be gentle now)

- Lower M10 Triple Square – 20 Nm
- Upper 13mm nut – 10 Nm

- VW G13 Coolant – 50/50 mix.
- Approx 8 liters total in system
